Final Penfield Beach swim: choppy water, strong current. Being a taper week, I swam about .6 miles w/ current, then about .4 against current & waves, and got out, walking back to the start. No real problem dealing with the current, I just did not want to get exhausted. Certainly the Potomac is not going to have waves smacking into my face. (Maybe the occassional swimmer, wacking me, but that's part of the swim in all triathlon. I am a worrier by nature, but the swim is low on the worry list after this summer's training.
Higher on the worry list is having to develop a completely un-tested pre-race warmup, as we are locked into Transition at 7am, and stuck there, for my age group, for more than 90 minutes before starting the race. I expect to find a quiet corner, close my eyes, and rest until 30 minutes are left to the start, then jog around. We will not be able to warm up in the water.
