September 7

One week to race day. A large group did our send-off brick: 16 miles, 2 mile run. Mike, who has been training with me all summer, told me he thought I was in my 40s :) , and was surprised that my wave was 50+ group. An easy ride, but we had to surrender our bikes for transportation. What will I do during the next week? On the ride, I had a flat (a really sharp piece of metal right through the tire), so everyone saw me change the tire (front, fortunately). Took maybe 4-5 minutes, which would not kill my race, but it would be much harder to stay calm as the clock was ticking.
I will swim Tuesday, probably do a short bike (on my old steel bike) & short run & some weights this week. The coaches really stress tapering, and doing very little as race day approaches, so I guess I will listen, even when my body cries out "Why aren't we exercising?"
