July 26

Up at 5:30am to drive to Fairfield to join in to the CT Challenge cancer bike ride. I was a volunteer bike marshal, on the course to help with flats, mechanical breakdowns, and discouraged riders (there were none of these). I was paired with 20 y.o. Brendan Vosburgh, who rides for the Colorado College Cycling Team. A very pleasant kid, who has participated in every CT Challenge ride. We were in the 'fast" section of the 50 mile ride, and we were fast. At one point, we waited for quite a while at a rest stop, so some riders could catch up. Brendan pulled me around the course most of the time, but I don't think he had to slow his normal pace more than a little for me. The weather was perfect, and the course is really beautiful. There are some long hills, but the worst of it is in the second half of the 100-mile course.
We finished in just over 3 hours, averaging 16.8 mph.
