May 7: a "set-back" ride of just 75 miles

So, this week, we had a long but MUCH flatter ride than our recent training. Sort of a "rest" week, keeping the ride along the Route 10, Farmington River corridor, and not up into the hills. It was a long ride, with a couple of wrong turns for my "pink" group, which turned a planned 70 miles into 75. To keep up my triathlon muscles, I took a short 3-mile run after the bike ride: it wasn't too bad, and my body remembered how to make that transition.
Monday is a rest day, then Tuesday, I'm going to risk humiliation by joining a group of folks I don't know for a Shelton/Monroe based "hill training ride" which has more elevation gain in 25 miles than Tahoe has in 100! One section of a hill is supposed to be 20%, which I don't think I have ever done. But the kindly group leader, John Ercolani, assures me that I can do it. We'll see. Even at my age (58 for those who don't know), I can get embarrassed if I am the one holding back the group. I'll report on that ride when it's done.
